O come, let us sing unto Adonai, let us shout for joy to the Rock of our salvation.

Let us come before God’s presence with thanksgiving let us shout for joy with psalms.

For the Adonai is a great God, Sovereign over all who govern

In God’s hand are the depths of the earth;

the peaks of the mountains are God’s.

God’s is the sea, God made it;

and the land, which God’s hands fashioned.

Come, let us bow down and kneel,

bend the knee before Adonai our maker,

for God is our God,

and we are the people God tends, the flock in God’s care.

O, if you would but heed God’s charge this day:

Do not be stubborn as at Meribah,

as on the day of Massah, in the wilderness,

when your fathers put Me to the test,

tried Me, though they had seen My deeds.

Forty years I was provoked by that generation;

I thought, “They are a senseless people;

they would not know My ways.”

Concerning them I swore in anger,

“They shall never come to My resting-place!”

Sing to Adonai a new song; sing to Adonai, all the earth. Sing to Adonai, bless God’s name; proclaim God’s deliverance day after day. Tell of God’s glory among the nations, God’s wonderful acts among all peoples. For Adonai is great and highly praised; awesome is God, above all gods. For all the gods of the peoples are only idols, but Adonai made the heavens. Honor and majesty in God’s presence; strength and beauty in God’s sanctuary. Grant to Adonai, O families of peoples, grant to Adonai glory and strength. Grant to Adonai the glory due God’s name; bring an offering, and come into God’s courts. Bow down to Adonai in the beauty of holiness; tremble in God’s presence, all the earth. Say among the nations: “Adonai reigns.” The earth holds firm and cannot be shaken; God judges the peoples with fairness. Let the heavens be glad and the earth rejoice; let the sea roar, and all within it and all within it. Let the field exult, and all inside it. Then all the trees of the wood will shout for joy before Adonai, who is coming. For God is coming to judge the earth; God will judge the earth with righteousness and the peoples with God’s faithfulness.

Adonai is sovereign!

Let the earth exult,

the many islands rejoice!

Dense clouds are around God,

righteousness and justice are the base of God’s throne.

Fire is God’s vanguard,

burning God’s foes on every side.

God’s lightnings light up the world;

the earth is convulsed at the sight;

mountains melt like wax at Adonai’s presence,

at the presence of the Adoani of all the earth.

The heavens proclaim God’s righteousness

and all peoples see God’s glory.

All who worship images,

who vaunt their idols,

are dismayed;

all divine beings bow down to God.

Zion, hearing it, rejoices,

the towns of Judah exult,

because of Your judgments, O Adonai.

For You, Adonai, are supreme over all the earth;

You are exalted high above all divine beings.

O you who love Adonai, hate evil!

God guards the lives of God’s loyal ones,

saving them from the hand of the wicked.

Light is sown for the righteous,

radiance  for the upright.

O you righteous, rejoice in Adonai

and acclaim God’s holy name!

Sing to Adonai a new song,

for God has worked wonders;

God’s right hand, God’s holy arm,

has won God victory.

Adonai has manifested God’s victory,

has displayed God’s triumph in the sight of the nations.

God was mindful of God’s steadfast love and faithfulness toward the house of Israel;

all the ends of the earth beheld the victory of our God.

Raise a shout to Adonai, all the earth,

break into joyous songs of praise!

Sing praise to Adonai with the lyre,

with the lyre and melodious song.

With trumpets and the blast of the horn

raise a shout before Adonai, the Sovereign.

Let the sea and all within it thunder,

the world and its inhabitants;

let the rivers clap their hands,

the mountains sing joyously together

at the presence of Adonai,

for God is coming to rule the earth;

God will rule the world justly,

and its people with equity.

Psalm 99

Adonai, enthroned on cherubim, is sovereign,

peoples tremble, the earth quakes.

Adonai is great in Zion,

and exalted above all peoples.

They praise Your name as great and awesome;

God is holy!

Sovereign who loves justice,

it was You who established equity,

You who worked righteous judgment in Jacob.

Exalt Adonai our God

and bow down to God’s footstool;

God is holy!

Moses and Aaron among God’s priests,

Samuel, among those who call on God’s name—

when they called to Adonai,

God answered them.

God spoke to them in a pillar of cloud;

they obeyed God’s decrees,

the law God gave them.

O Adonai our God, You answered them;

You were a forgiving God for them,

but You exacted retribution for their misdeeds.

Exalt Adonai our God,

and bow toward God’s holy hill,

for Adonai our God is holy.

A Psalm of David.

Ascribe to Adonai, O divine beings,

ascribe to Adonai glory and strength.

Ascribe to Adonai the glory of God name;

bow down to Adonai, majestic in holiness.

The voice of Adonai is over the waters;

the God of glory thunders,

Adonai, over the mighty waters.

The voice of Adonai is power;

the voice of Adonai is majesty;

the voice of Adonai breaks cedars;

Adonai shatters the cedars of Lebanon.

Sirion, like a young wild ox.

The voice of Adonai kindles flames of fire;

the voice of Adonai convulses the wilderness;

Adonai convulses the wilderness of Kadesh;

the voice of Adonai causes hinds to calve,

while in God’s temple all say “Glory!”

Adonai sat enthroned at the Flood;

Adonai sits enthroned, sovereign forever.

May Adonai grant strength to God’s people;

may Adonai bestow on God people wellbeing.

Come, my friend, to meet the bride; let us welcome the Sabbath.

“Observe” and “Remember,” in a single command, the One

God announced to us. Adonai is One, and God’s name is One, for

fame, for glory and for praise.

Come, my friend, to meet the bride; let us welcome the Sabbath.

Come, let us go to meet the Sabbath, for it is a source of bles-

sing. From the very beginning it was ordained; last in creation,

first in God’s plan.

Come, my friend, to meet the bride; let us welcome the Sabbath.

Shrine of the sovereign, royal city, arise! Come forth from thy ruins.

Long enough have you dwelt in the vale of tears! God will show

you abundant mercy.

Come, my friend, to meet the bride; let us welcome the Sabbath.

Shake off your dust, arise! Put on your glorious garments, my

people, and pray: “Be near to my soul, and redeem it through

the son of Jesse, the Bethlehemite.”

Come, my friend, to meet the bride; let us welcome the Sabbath.

Bestir yourself, bestir yourself, for your light has come; arise

and shine! Awake, awake, utter a song; Adonai’s glory is revealed

upon you.

Come, my friend, to meet the bride; let us welcome the Sabbath.

Be not ashamed nor confounded. Why are you downcast? Why

do you moan? The afflicted of my people will be sheltered within

you; the city shall be rebuilt on its ancient site.

Come, my friend, to meet the bride; let us welcome the Sabbath.

Those who despoiled you shall become a spoil, and all who

would devour you shall be far away. Your God will rejoice over

you as a bridegroom rejoices over his bride.

Come, my friend, to meet the bride; let us welcome the Sabbath.

You shall extend to the right and to the left, and you shall re-

vere Adonai. Through the advent of a descendant of Perez we

shall rejoice and exult.

Come, my friend, to meet the bride; let us welcome the Sabbath.

[Congregation rises and turns toward the door, as if to welcome a guest.]

A Psalm, a Song. For the sabbath day.

It is a good thing to give thanks unto Adonai, and to sing praises unto Your name, O Most High;

To declare Your lovingkindness in the morning, and Your faithfulness in the night seasons,

With an instrument of ten strings, and with the psaltery; with a solemn sound upon the harp.

For You, Adonai, has made me glad through Your work; I will exult in the works of Your hands.

How great are Your works, O Adonai! Your thoughts are very deep.

A brutish man knows not, neither does a fool understand this.

When the wicked spring up as the grass, and when all the workers of iniquity do flourish; it is that they may be destroyed forever.

But You, O Adonai, are on high for evermore.

For, lo, Your enemies, O Adonai, for, lo, Your enemies shall perish:

all the workers of iniquity shall be scattered.

But my horn have You exalted like the horn of the wild-ox; I am anointed with rich oil.

My eyes also have gazed on those that lie in wait for me,

my ears have heard the desire of the evil-doers that rise up against me.

The righteous shall flourish like the palm-tree; they shall grow like a cedar in Lebanon.

Planted in the house of Adonai, they shall flourish in the courts of our God.

They shall still bring forth fruit in old age; they shall be full of sap and richness;

To declare that Adonai is upright, my Rock, in whom there is no unrighteousness.

Psalm 93

Adonai is sovereign,

God is robed in grandeur;

Adonai is robed,

God is girded with strength.

The world stands firm;

it cannot be shaken.

Your throne stands firm from of old;

from eternity You have existed.

The ocean sounds, O Adonai,

the ocean sounds its thunder,

the ocean sounds its pounding.

Above the thunder of the mighty waters,

more majestic than the breakers of the sea

is Adonai, majestic on high.

Your decrees are indeed enduring;

holiness befits Your house,

O Adonai, for all times.

who speaks the evening into being,

skillfully opens the gates,

thoughtfully alters the time and changes the seasons,

and arranges the stars in their heavenly courses according to plan.

You are the Creator of day and night,

rolling light away from darkness and darkness from light,

transforming day into night and distinguishing one from the other.

Adonai T’zvaot is Your Name.

Ever-living God, may You reign continually over us into eternity.

Blessed are You, Adonai, who brings on evening.

What other power is like this one? What can transcend like holiness, awesomely powerful, working wonders? We experienced that power as the sea split before Moses. ‘This is my God!’ we exclaimed, ‘Majesty transcends all time and space!’ This is why it is said: Jacob was rescued from battling his brother, a peril he could not overcome himself. Praised are you, source of miracles, redeemer of Israel.

For in six days Adonai made heaven and earth,

Compassion’s might has no limit: sustaining the living with kindness, lovingly bringing life to the lifeless; stirring us to lift the fallen, heal the sick, free the bound, and keeping faith even with those who sleep in the dust. Who is like this source of mercy, binding its children into life, in mercy. Always it is the faithful source of life. Blessed is the compassion that fills matter with living spirit.

And there was evening and there was morning, the sixth day.

The heaven and the earth were finished, and all their array. On the seventh day God finished the work that God had been doing, and God ceased on the seventh day from all the work that God had done. And God blessed the seventh day and declared it holy, because on it God ceased from all the work of creation that God had done.

Blessed are You, Adonai our God, Sovereign of all, Creator of the fruit of the vine.

Blessed are You, Adonai our God, Sovereign of all, who finding favor with us, sanctified us with mitzvot. In love and favor, You made the holy Shabbat our heritage as a reminder of the work of Creation. As first among our sacred days, it recalls the Exodus from Egypt. You chose us and set us apart from the peoples. In love and favor You have given us Your holy Shabbat as an inheritance. Blessed are You, Adonai, who sanctifies Shabbat.

It is our duty to praise the Ruler of all things, to ascribe greatness to the One who formed the world in the beginning. So we bend the knee and offer worship and thanks before the supreme Sovereign of sovereigns, the Holy One, who stretched forth the heavens and laid the foundations of the earth, the seat of whose glory is in the heavens above, and the residence of whose might is in the loftiest heights. Adonai is our God; there is none else: in truth Adonai is our Ruler; there is none else; as it is written in the Torah: “And you shall know this day, and lay it to your heart, that Adonai is God in heaven above and upon the earth beneath: there is none else.”

As it is written in Your Torah, “Adonai shall reign forever and ever.” And it is said, “Adonai shall be ruler over all the Earth: in that day, Adonai shall be One and God’s name shall be One.”

Magnified and sanctified is God’s great name in the world created according to divine will. May God’s majesty reign during your lifetime and throughout your days, and during the life of all people, speedily and soon, and let us say, Amen.

(Recited by mourners and community in unison)

Let God’s great Name be blessed forever and for all eternity.

Blessed, praised and glorified, exalted, extolled and honored, magnified and lauded be the Name of the Holy One, though God reigns high above all the blessings and hymns, praises and consolations, which are uttered in this world; and let us say: Amen.

May there be abundant peace from heaven, and life for us and for all Israel; and let us say, Amen.

Power of the universe, reigning before anything existed: when all was made as it willed, its sovereignty was declared.

And after all is finished, that awesome power will reign alone, in splendor She was, He is, It will be.

There is only One, no second compares or accompanies; without beginning, without end, origin of all energy and design.

This is my strength. This frees my life. My solid rock in troubled times. My banner, my sign, my miracle, that fills my cup when I call.

I place my soul in its hands, when I sleep and when I wake: my soul, and my body as well. Adonai is mine; I will not fear.
